Apology

Wow, nice to know these states are making the apology to slavery ‘official.’ Firstly, why is there an official vote for an apology? And second, I wonder what the percentage of apologetic people is in those states. It shouldn’t just be about the southern states though, this whole country is to blame for slavery. Perhaps we can make that ‘official’ too. Now that we took care of centuries-old issues, let’s deal with the ones we have now. Such as not taking care of people laid-off in towns that survived previously because of one company (think GM, Ford, Chevy, etc), who up and left the town to rot. That might be a nice jesture.

Another brick in the wall

Came down today! Read:

“CUPERTINO, California—April 2, 2007—Apple® today announced that EMI Music’s entire digital catalog of music will be available for purchase DRM-free (without digital rights management) from the iTunes® Store (www.itunes.com) worldwide in May. DRM-free tracks from EMI will be offered at higher quality 256 kbps AAC encoding, resulting in audio quality indistinguishable from the original recording, for just $1.29 per song. In addition, iTunes customers will be able to easily upgrade their entire library of all previously purchased EMI content to the higher quality DRM-free versions for just 30 cents a song. iTunes will continue to offer its entire catalog, currently over five million songs, in the same versions as today—128 kbps AAC encoding with DRM—at the same price of 99 cents per song, alongside DRM-free higher quality versions when available.

“We are going to give iTunes customers a choice—the current versions of our songs for the same 99 cent price, or new DRM-free versions of the same songs with even higher audio quality and the security of interoperability for just 30 cents more,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “We think our customers are going to love this, and we expect to offer more than half of the songs on iTunes in DRM-free versions by the end of this year.”

“EMI and iTunes are once again teaming up to move the digital music industry forward by giving music fans higher quality audio that is virtually indistinguishable from the original recordings, with no usage restrictions on the music they love from their favorite artists,” said Eric Nicoli, CEO of EMI Group.

With DRM-free music from the EMI catalog, iTunes customers will have the ability to download tracks from their favorite EMI artists without any usage restrictions that limit the types of devices or number of computers that purchased songs can be played on. DRM-free songs purchased from the iTunes Store will be encoded in AAC at 256 kbps, twice the current bit rate of 128 kbps, and will play on all iPods, Mac® or Windows computers, Apple TVs and soon iPhones, as well as many other digital music players.

iTunes will also offer customers a simple, one-click option to easily upgrade their entire library of all previously purchased EMI content to the higher quality DRM-free format for 30 cents a song. All EMI music videos will also be available in DRM-free format with no change in price.

The iTunes Store features the world’s largest catalog with over five million songs, 350 television shows and over 400 movies. The iTunes Store has sold over two billion songs, 50 million TV shows and over 1.3 million movies, making it the world’s most popular online music, TV and movie store.

With Apple’s legendary ease of use, pioneering features such as integrated podcasting support, iMix playlist sharing, seamless integration with iPod® and the ability to turn previously purchased songs into completed albums at a reduced price, the iTunes Store is the best way for PC and Mac users to legally discover, purchase and download music and video online.

Apple ignited the personal computer revolution in the 1970s with the Apple II and reinvented the personal computer in the 1980s with the Macintosh. Today, Apple continues to lead the industry in innovation with its award-winning computers, OS X operating system and iLife and professional applications. Apple is also spearheading the digital media revolution with its iPod portable music and video players and iTunes online store, and will enter the mobile phone market this year with its revolutionary iPhone.”

Thank you Apple and EMI. Now sit back and reap the benefits. I’m sure you’re gonna love it.

SLACKER!

That’s me, lil old slacker on my blog. Alas. I’ve been extremely busy with work, class, freelance, life, love, hous decor, traveling, eating, sleeping. All those good stuff. I will say, I’m loving my class with Ed Benguiat, and will put up some of my pieces shortly. He’s a wealth of information, stories, and humour. I’ve learned a lot, and keep learning.

In other news:
This guy at work, Rich Foster, is a DJ, and goes unde the guise 2 Damn Cheeky which is a duo. They do some great progressive electro sets, and he is a wealth of information as well when it comes to great dance music. I’ve been listening to many sets of him and just sets he has. I’ll post more info for places to check out later as well.

Spring is here! YAY! Loving it. Let the warm air commence. I am looking forward to days at the park, trips to he beach, out of town, wherever. That’s it for now. I’ll be back soon ;)

Plastic Minds

Plastic Minds, originally uploaded by r303blue.

I’ve been setting up a new ‘profile’ site to replace the infamous Myspace. I’m tirelessly trying to pull defectors to the new social. It’s at Virbº and my site is Plastic Minds of course. I was able to upload all my songs, customize the page very easily (and beautifully!), and make my own modules for custom information. This site will take off, however it’s in Beta, so there are new things coming. Please join the revolution, and forget the infamous Myspace!

Mark

I barely got to know him, but I still loved him. For everything he did to influence and inspire Margaux’s life before I knew her, I thank him. I considered him a friend shortly after meeting him, and was very excited to have him accept an invitation to meet my parents. We all had a great time that night too.

For his silly emails, goofy cat language, ridiculous impersonations, and love of odd words that just “sound cool,” how could you not laugh in his presence? Introverted, but polite, accomodating, and genuinely interested in our lives, even if unspoken. He read our blogs, looked at our pictures, and even listened to my stupid songs! I love that I got to jam on the harmonica while he played the piano at Christmas, especially since he was so damn good (though very modest).

A great man, great father, great husband, great friend. There will be an emptiness, and he will never be forgotten. On top of being a great man, he was also a great designer, so I thought I would share some of his logos below. I’ll miss you Mark.

Surviving This.

Nine Inch Nails is coming out with a new album, Year Zero. A whole viral marketing campaign is underway, and this time the Boston Polic can’t f%^# with it. With this campaign came track ‘leaks’ that were quite obviously done on purpose, which you can find at: Symphony Of Noise. But if you’re a true fan, you may be interested in all the hype and websites that are a part of the campaign, which someone has compiled and packaged neatly with a bow at: Echoing The Sound.

In my opinon so far, this is turning out to feel more like Trent’s younger albums, in particular my favorite “The Downward Spiral.” I love all his albums, but this one hit every part that NIN stood for and felt like to me, and this new one has a more electronic and angry feel reminisent of those days. I Think I’m in love already!
